Sustainability practices have become widely ingrained in the operations of manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, and the many logistics partners that design supply chain networks, run truck fleets, book loads, manage warehouses, and generally ensure that goods are staged efficiently, move accurately, and arrive at their destination on time.

Over the past decade, those practices have been reinforced and encouraged by regulatory measures designed to promote not just tracking and reporting of energy use and related emissions, but also progress against goals and objectives to reduce them and mitigate their effects. At the same time, “walking the walk” as a business embracing and demonstrating sustainability values has become part and parcel of company cultures, a path to less waste and greater efficiency across the universe of supply chain activities—and a clear benefit to recruiting and retaining the next generation of workers.
